Three and a half years on a rollercoaster with Forrest and the Somos crew, turning a crazy idea into a real challenger on its way to topple incumbent ISPs in Latam. I arrived as a finance consultant and quickly became CFO from necessity; by the time I left we’d grown from under 5,000 subscribers to nearly 100,000, opened Mexico, and raised capital from some of the best investors in the world. What I’m proudest of is the culture we built: a team that has internalized the belief that Somos will win. Working beside Forrest changes what you think you’re capable of.
Mesa Salvaje was a passion project and my “real world MBA”. It is probably the chapter of my life where I truly became an adult, managing a team and being responsible for their livelihoods and the wellbeing of our customers. I look back on this period with nostalgia for the good times — core memories made, recipes brought to life, many incredible coffees sourced and sold, and a true sense of community built. But it was a hard, lean period of my life and forced a reckoning with some of my earlier, more naive views on the world and business.
Blurb coming — Manchester, New York, and life growing up.
